The Influence of Scent on Sleep Quality

The use of scents in sleep medicine is gaining increasing attention since they have been shown to improve quality. This randomized double-blinded crossover trial measured the extent which a continuous nightly presentation synthetic jasmine scent combined with lavender oil and passionflower herb improves subjective objective Thirty sensitive sleepers (ISI 7-14) who suffer from delayed sleep-onset frequent disturbances (2-3 per week) were monitored under four conditions laboratory over nights. first night was for acclimation (baseline), other nights counterbalanced order (placebo rose scent, high-dose or low-dose relative essential oils). Alongside this, subjects given standardized questionnaires complete morning evening. There significant improvement quality total time when using compared baseline. Furthermore, both variants decreased wake after onset. results also indicated that application on T-shirt well tolerated by all subjects. Overall, it may positively affect parameters, moderators such as dosage, method, duration should be further investigated.
